When we decided to turn our office into the nursery, the theme kind of introduced itself in the form of the several shelves of children’s books that were already in the room. Why not build the room around one of my favorite things and something that I looked forward to sharing with my daughter, reading. I have always loved children’s books and actually have a master’s degree in children’s literature and have taught workshops and summer camps in literacy and creative writing in the past, so I have a pretty large collection of children’s books. After browsing Pinterest, I came up with several DIY projects to complete the look of a combo children’s book nursery and ABC themed nursery. I’ve included links to the decor and baby care products found in each picture. You can also check out more of our favorite products in this post.
Book Themed Nursery: Changing Table
The first book themed nursery DIY project I completed was this Dr. Seuss quote canvas for above the changing table that we repurposed from a desk. It had plenty of storage underneath for diapers, wipes, and her medical and personal care items. All you need to create something similar with a quote that matches your nursery theme is a canvas and paint pens. I traced the words in pencil on the canvas first and then filled in with blue, red, and black paint pens.

Book Themed Nursery: Sleep Area
I had picked up these Alphabet animal wall stickers at the dollar store before I was even pregnant and saved this banner from a baby shower I created decorations for in the fall of 2017. You can check out the directions for the banner on my post all about that children’s book baby shower. The crib was one of the only items for the nursery we purchased new.

Book Themed Nursery: Play Area
In front of the bookshelves I created a play area with a fun foam puzzle rug in an ABC theme. These are some of the children’s books that I decided to keep in the nursery, including board books, picture books, and books perfect for read-alouds once she is older. I also have children’s book stuffed animals around the room.
Book Themed Nursery: Storage
Her dresser is one that used to be in our guest room. We decided to wait on a matching set of furniture until she is older and in a twin bed. I was lucky enough to find some items for the room at children’s consignment sales, including the play cart, bookshelf, and a lamp that perfectly matched the color we painted the walls. Our final project for the nursery was a clock made out of a Dr. Seuss book, but since it wasn’t finished before she was born, it still isn’t five months later. Maybe we’ll get around to it eventually.
