Are you searching for the perfect gift for your partner? Do you want to be something that they’ll treasure and that will remind them of you and your relationship daily? It is possible to give your significant other a gift that is personalized but not overly cheesy. Mine have been so successful that they get a place of honor at my husband’s desk at work.
Personalized Gifts: “Why You’re a Catch” Baseball
Is your significant other a huge sports fan like mine? My husband loves his local teams, especially the Eagles and Phillies. To celebrate his love of baseball I made him a “Why you’re a catch” baseball for his birthday while we were still dating. I also took him to a minor league baseball game. This can be a special gift by itself or you can pair it with game tickets or equipment for a rec team player.
All you need is sharpies, a baseball, and a list of all the things that you think are great about your love. Either fine point sharpies or super fine point sharpies (dependent on the size of your writing and how much you want to write) in blue, red, and/or black work best. Minimize smearing by letting each line dry before writing the next. If you do make a mistake, permanent marker can be removed using rubbing alcohol.
My husband was so thrilled with his baseball that he wanted to put on his desk at work, which I will admit surprised me because he is a pretty private guy. Buy a baseball display case as well and he can have a reminder of how much you love him everyday.
Is he not a baseball fan? Grab a mini football to tell him why he’s a catch. This mini autograph football is the perfect choice because it offers a smooth, white surface on the back to write on. However a regular child sized or mini football can also be used if you don’t mind writing on a bumpy surface. The phrasing can also be adapted for other sports lovers.
Personalized Gifts: Memories Collage
Looking for a way to display memories or photos from the last year or your relationship but not a scrapbooker? All you need is a nice picture frame and a collection of mementos you’d like to display. I picked out two tickets from memorable trips we had taken to a baseball game and the zoo, and a picture from our first vacation together. We also “happened” by a photo booth for the perfect last addition of part of a photo strip.
Take the photo frame apart and remove the photo paper inside to trace a correctly sized piece of thick paper or cardstock for the collage’s base. Before attaching, try different arrangements, then use a glue stick to adhere the items to the cardstock.
Not the craftiest person? No worries, there are some great collage frames available that will take the guesswork out of the process, although most of these are more appropriate for wall hanging because of their larger size. This simple black collage frame offers spaces for 2 vertical and 2 horizontal 4X6 pictures.
This frame is a take on a clip-line photo display. It features two metal rods suspended in a black frame with a reversible black/white background and eight metal clips. You can easily switch out photos or mementos as the seasons change or as new memories are made.
Want to record your year together with your smart phone or Instagram photos? This frame has room for nine 4X4 photos. Feature photos from every season, nine couple selfies, the year’s best moments, or shots of your favorite spots to spend time together. You could switch out the photos every year and store the rest in a photo box or a 4×4 album.
Personalized Gifts: Love Letters
As a writer, one of the best ways that I express myself is through the written word. And the great thing about writing down how you feel is that your significant other will be able to read that letter, note, or journal over and over again. My husband and I like to write letters to memorialize special occasions. I have also hid love post-its around the house to start off a day’s celebration in a special way. Check out some of these cute options to show your love through letters:
1- Looking for some inspiration for love notes? This book of 101 self-adhesive and perforated love notes features quotes and phrases, with room to add your own note (blank decorated pages also included).
2- Ever wanted to create a set of “Read later…” letters? This set of 12 beautiful envelopes with notepaper allow you the opportunity to do just that and store them inside a “paper time capsule” book. Mark them to be opened at special times, such as one for each month of the next year, on the anniversary of special moments in your relationship, or on the occasion of events such as a fight or the birth of your first child. There is an entire line of these books, including one perfect for long distance relationships, the “open when…” collection.
3- Are you looking to record your entire relationship together? The “Why I Love You” journal offers fill-in-the-blank and question style pages to record your relationship from your meeting, to why you love him and your hopes for your future together. You can either fill it out completely before gifting or just start writing and explore the rest of the book together.
